the very first true species orchid I ever got at age of 8 (thanks Ed!) this`Jewel Orchid` is noted for its ease of culture, a very attractive plant with a freely branching reddish rhizome, produces rossettes of velvety 3` leaves colored dark green verging on black with reddish undersides, leaves have intense single longitudinal central pink vein,14` spikes carry a cylindrical head of up to 2 dozen contorted odd-looking but very attractive white blooms with bright-yellow pollen caps - these are divisions of that very plant I got in 1971, very fragrant
